VIBRATIONAL SUPPORT BY BADASS WOMEN
The construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, DAPL, was halted on December 4th at Standing Rock*. It was a victory for Indigenous sovereignty, for the protection of clean water, and for slowing climate change.
However, the 550 (as of this writing) Water Protectors who were arrested are now coming to trial, despite calls to dismiss charges. Trials are scheduled to continue through the spring, though hundreds of the defendants do not have a defense lawyer.** The ND state attorney has also called for those arrested to foot the approximately 17 million dollar bill for arrests and court costs.***
It may seem as if all is resolved for the Standing Rock Sioux and gathered supporters, but that is far from the case, legally or financially. Please join us!
*On December 4th, 2016 the United States Army Corps of Engineers announced that it is denying an easement to Dakota Access, LLC (Dakota Access) to drill under Lake Oahe and the Missouri River for the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed and alternative routes are explored. The pipeline is designed to transport crude oil.
